We spent a glorious week in Barcelona for our honeymoon, exploring the incredible city. We arrived Monday afternoon, after an easy flight and some cheeky champagne on the plane! Our hotel was right opposite a huge shopping mall so we went to browse and find somewhere to eat. I'd completely forgotten how difficult it was to be a vegetarian in Spain, but we found a little American diner and had a couple of drinks before heading back to our room to enjoy the Honeymoon wine we'd been gifted. We stopped off at the concierge and booked two day tickets for the red and blue bus tours so we could spend the next couple of days exploring.
After an early start and an amazing breakfast, we stopped off at Le Sagrada Familia, only to find that they were completely sold out! We walked around the outside, which is still absolutely phenomenal! We booked tickets there for the Barcelona Stadium tour, and hopped back on the bus to Camp Nou, which was pretty impressive. Our hotel was on the green route so we headed home after doing both tours, which were absolutely fascinating, and went to relax and drink cocktails by the rooftop pool. We visited the mall again and found an amazing pasta restaurant for dinner, their pesto sauce was so SO good!
Wednesday we headed out early again, stopping off first at the Cathedral which is absolutely magnificent, we got the lift up onto the roof and the views were breathtaking. We then visited Park Guell and walked around the gardens, climbing right to the top of the hill there too. We found a sweet little restaurant on the hill just outside where we ate lunch and drank Sangria before heading to a little science museum to cool off and ride the tram up the hill. Unfortunately we had to walk half way back down to get to the museum but it was fun, the museum had a rainforest exhibition which was really cool, and lots of dinosaur skeletons! We rode back to La Rambla to find somewhere to eat, bought a couple of souvenirs and headed back to the beach for a couple of cocktails.
We'd decided on a beach day so I took full advantage had had a glorious lie in, a late breakfast and then wandered down to the sea. We spent a couple of hours lying in the sun, reading and ordering food & drinks from the adorable beach bar. Colin even got me in the sea, before realising we were looking a little lobster-esque - typically British! We went back to the amazing pasta restaurant where Colin ordered the exact same lasagne, it was so good, and I sampled another pesto. We had a quick shopping spree in H&M before heading home to pack. We covered up and headed back to the beach Friday, for one last cocktail before heading back to the airport.
We had the most incredible week, it was so nice to spend that time together as newlyweds, though I did miss my boys terribly! I would recommend Barcelona as a holiday destination, we've both already agreed we'd love to go back!
