Life Lately.

My creation

I've been a little quieter than usual on IG this week. I've been feeling like I barely have any time with the boys between work and bedtime, and after that I'm working on reading and notes for uni. I'm a little behind with work so hopefully I'll catch up soon and actually see my fiance more than one evening a week fairly soon. I'm still fighting this cold too which is pretty much wiping me out. The boys have been amazing, as they always are! Looking forward to the weekend, we have football training in the morning and a date night in the evening. My Mum has offered to have the boys overnight so SLEEP! Glorious sleep! Plus a wedding fayre and some more florist research Sunday.
What are you up to this weekend?!

Preschool Crafts: Ball Painting.

Untitled

Joshua loves the Cbeebies app, particularly the game where you can make a picture with Bing. He likes choosing the colours, and his favourite by far (except possibly the stickers, standard) is using the ball to roll around the paper to make a picture. It suddenly struck me how easy that would be to do with actual paint! We used a baking/roasting tray with high sides, a bouncy ball (smooth and easy to clean!) and these Squeeze 'n Brush 12 Classic Colours paints because we go for minimal mess at Nanny's house. Most of the time. We squeezed out blobs of paint onto the paper and took turns moving the tray so the ball rolled around and made some beautiful pictures. We spoke a little about mixing colours but the yellow had run out so we couldn't test out making green or orange. Maybe next time. This kept us entertained for a good half hour, we made half a dozen pictures before the boys went off to fight crime/slay dragons/drive racing cars. Pretty good going, if you ask me!

The Gruffalo's Child Trail.

Untitled

On Saturday we went on an adventure, to a deep dark wood, to hunt for the Gruffalo! My parents took us to Alice Holt Forest for their Gruffalo's Child Trail - "Explore the Forest on a self-led family trail with characters from the well-loved children's story - The Gruffalo's Child." The boys really enjoyed rushing from sign to sign, excited to find the Gruffalo and do the activities on the way. Nanny and Grandad were great sports, joining in too! A really fun, free family day out, we had a coffee and huuge piece of cake at the cafe before we started, and a play at the giant park when we'd finished too. We're definitely planning on going back, soon! Admission is free, but we did pay a couple of pounds for parking, and an activity pack is available for £2. The trail is a special event and only open until the 28th February, I think they have a few across the country so it's worth a google. Side-note, the actual Gruffalo statue wasn't on the trail, but on a separate one in the opposite direction, definitely worth planning for though! It was pretty magical, watching one of our favourite stories come to life for them like that. I vlogged our day, if you'd like to watch. The video is kinda long, but I think it is absolutely the sweetest. Thank you Nanny and Grandad, for a wonderful day!

Life Lately.

My creation

A real jumble of photos from the last fortnight, what is up with that Flickr?! I hardly took any pictures the week before last, but seemed to make up for it!

Highlights:
// We are all still suffering with colds, though the boys seem much better tonight. Plus we had a duvet Disney movie day and I barely moved off the sofa so I'm trying to count that as a win.
// The boys started Soccer School, and got new football boots - it was all deliciously cute except the cold!
// I finished a book, for fun, the first this year!
// I wrote a 3000 word assignment and still made time to be present with the boys. They are so much fun right now.

Weekly Wishes [03]

37a9eb57b33aa6e2a246967ee6b9c867
[Source: tumblr via buzzfeed via pinterest, please let me know if you know the real source]

The past two weeks have been nothing short of manically crazy. The start of the indoor softball season, a ton of pressure from uni, a nasty cold virus topped off with being a Mama and housewife just got the best of me. I decided to let the blog take a backseat and focus on everything else, which was really strange actually. But for the best. Now my assignment is in, the house is still in a state of disarray and the boys are in bed, I can finally get down to some hardcore writing.

First, last week's goals. Or two weeks. Despite having double the time I did NOT focus on these at all so this isn't looking good.

Health
// Drink 4 glasses of water a day. Oh. I definitely drank lots over the weekend to shift this cold... Yeah that totally doesn't count. Fail.
// Softball practice & game, plus a run and a yoga workout. Half ain't bad. It's awful.

Blogging
// Comment on at least 10 blogs. Hands up, I didn't do this. I don't think I even commented on the blogs I was supposed to for the link-ups I took part in, bad blogger. I'm sorry guys. See the manic crazy explanation above!
// Interact more on IG.  I'll take this one as a win despite not doing a massive amount of commenting, or posting for that matter.

Life
// A doodle a day. Nope.
// Three activities with the boys.   Painting, collage, football, a gruffalo hunt, superheroes, and setting up the play kitchen. Woop!

Uni
// Write 3000 words on the factors affecting learning. DONE! And it feels so good!

This week's goals:

Health
// Drink a litre of water a day, take my multivitamins and eat my five-a-day. I WILL shift this cold.
// Two yoga workouts and a run. I don't have softball this week, but I'm choosing to continue to be optimistic about this exercising thing.

Blogging
// Post 5 times. Schedule as many as possible.
// Tweet 3 times a day. Reply to 3 tweets a day. Tweet tweet.

Life
//  Read The Hunger Games. I'm giving myself a little light reading before starting Frankenstein.
// Take an evening to myself and watch rubbish TV. Sometimes it's just needed, and Colin is busy most evenings.

Uni
// Catch up with maths and science reading. This will be no mean feat but I figure I can do some while the boys play at the weekend if necessary.

Wedding
// Visit florists and suit hire shops, plus a wedding fayre on Sunday. A new section, because obviously I don't have enough to do. Haha.

Both so expressive with their facial expressions, I could just watch them for hours. My goal is to capture as many of them as possible!

Joshua: He seems his usual cheeky self, and is loving the extra attention. Kiddo got to sleep in the top bunk tonight so I can sleep in with D, he's beside himself with excitement.

Everyday Style. Work Wednesday.

Untitled

"Can you definitely see my boots?!"

One of these days Daniel is going to wise up and demand a pay rise. A well deserved one, granted. Especially as I'd like to make this a regular thing. Everyday style is my jam. Morning school-run lighting however, is not.
Another day at the office. Well, I don't actually work at an office but you know. I really liked this outfit; the pastel blue and the stripes is a winning combination, and knee-length pencil skirts with ankle boots is my new favourite thing - it is definitely still too cold for flats. Take my word for it. Definitely regretting wearing those boots after a softball practice though, my poor legs are suffering now!

Weekly Wishes [02]

Last week's wishes went relatively well. I feel so preoccupied at the moment, like I'm worried I might drop one of my many plates. I'm not sure if my body's trying to fight something off, I've been really lethargic and there's a lot of bugs going around so that decreased my productivity too.

Health
// Exercise. 2 runs, 1 spin workout and 2 yoga workouts. Well. I did exercise, a little. 2 yoga workouts and a little run, so that's better than nothing I guess. Just, life.
// Track my calories with Lifesum.  Unsurprisingly, I'm now completely over this app. It just made me feel bad haha.

Blogging
// Use my big camera twice. Once was too dark to shoot anything, but the sun graced us on Saturday and I got quite a few sweet shots, including my 2/52 pictures.
// Comment on at least 10 blogs. Go me!

Life
// Q&A a Day with Colin. We managed all of two days, I had a bunch of early nights last week so it's my bad.
// Three activities with the boys. Tick. I kept it simple with watercolour painting (twice!), playdough with number cutters and a supermarket role play.

Uni
// Read "The Star of Kazan" for English. Done. I may have done it over the weekend and the boys may have had waaay too much screen time, but it's done all the same. I actually really enjoyed reading, and didn't want to put the book down even after 11pm. I'd forgotten what it was like to get lost in a book.

This week's goals, taking it easy:

Health
// Drink 4 glasses of water a day. My major fail in life is not drinking enough. Iced water, preferably, only a splash of squash allowed.
// Softball practice & game, plus a run and a yoga workout. That sounds doable.

Blogging
// Comment on at least 10 blogs.
// Interact more on IG. No pressure.

Life
// A doodle a day. Inspired by Andrea Pippins #wedoodle challenge.
// Three activities with the boys. One outdoor adventure, one craft and one imaginative play.

Uni
// Write 3000 words on the factors affecting learning. I've started and should be writing right now but I'm really struggling with the mountain of textbooks. I have plenty of time before Monday though, right?!

Ten on ten. January 2015.

Today has been TOUGH. Both boys are exercising their two and four year old tantrum rights, our house is ringing with the screaming and shouting. But that isn't what I want to remember when I'm old and grey, reading back on this like a memoir. I want to remember the silver linings. Joshua showing off to all the oldies at Nana June's care home, pretending to be Spider-Man. Daniel begging to listen to more audio books. The excitement over new colouring pencils. The hours spent playing "shops", though not without it's difficulties. The giggles while eating ice pops in the bath, and putting their pyjama trousers on their heads. Joshua trying so hard to hold up two fingers when I ask how old he is. Daniel reading his book and recognising some of the words. There, that made me feel better. That and the box of chocolates.

Thankful for some natural light today, after a week of grey skies. We're spending the day enjoying each others' company, being creative, reading stories and pretending to be Superheros.

Life Lately.

My creation

This week we have been:
Making: Water-colour paintings, a big mess at Nanny's house and
Cooking: Minimal amounts, my wonderful Mama has cooked for us nearly every day this week!
Drinking: Water. All the water. And maybe several cups of coffee a day.
Reading: Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley next.
Wanting: More (daylight) hours in the day!
Looking: For inspiration on Pinterest & Instagram.
Playing: Superheroes. All day everyday.
Watching: The Harry Potter films.
Singing: The Frozen soundtrack, over and over, at the top of our lungs.
Enjoying: Snuggles on the sofa, under a blanket, pretty frequently.
Loving: Spur of the moment dance parties. Bedtime stories.
Hoping: That the weather clears. I'm hoping to play catch with my Dad before the indoor softball season starts next week, play at the park with the boys and go for a run.
Wearing: My usual mom-uniform, ankle boots, leggings, jumpers and scarves.
Noticing: How little I have been using, and missing, social media. We've been so busy I have hardly had time to check anything, and my evenings have been spent doodling or doing yoga. It's been really nice to take a break, actually.
Bookmarking: This craft blog, "Creating an art station", these outfit layout tips and this sweet book club
Giggling: at Joshua's facial expression and pure cheek, he is always making me smile.

Wedding planning. Flowers.

My creation

It's really sinking in that we get married this year. 8 months! 215 days!! There will be a lot more wedding updates this year, as I get stuck in to the planning. The next job on my wedding, 'to-do list' is research florists. Browsing Pinterest I have a fairly good idea of what I'd like; cream and pink as per the theme, roses and baby's breath for sure and a little green because I love the way that looks. I have a ridiculously large stash of glass jars too so this seems like the perfect opportunity to actually use them! Colin's Mum has graciously offered to make the table centerpieces, so that's one thing ticked off. I'd quite like a silk bouquet, one I can keep, so I'm looking into that too. My Mum and I are going to go on a flower arranging course at the local college, specifically wedding accessories, which will be fun. Looking on YouTube and Pinterest, buttonholes and bouquets actually don't seem that difficult to make. I have a friend who did the flowers for her friends' wedding and she's offered her help too, which is lovely. I'm still going to call and visit a few actual florists though, just to get an idea of things. Doing things on a budget means doing as much as I can myself, but I'm just worried about taking on too much and not having enough time. I'm really excited to get started, apart from the dresses everything else has almost fallen into our laps so I'm totally eager to really get the ball rolling! It makes it seem so real, that in just a few short months I'll be walking down the aisle, saying 'I do' and becoming Mrs Sawford!

Weekly Wishes [01]

112b955a688ca9cb5ad910b246fbbddd

As a New Year Resolution of sorts, I've decided to write myself Weekly Goals to try and keep myself on track. Last year's resolutions went well to start, but by the end of the year they had nearly all trailed off. I'm hoping this will keep me accountable, as I'll revisit the previous weeks' goals each Monday when I post new ones. Keeping them simple to start, as this week will be an adjustment back to early mornings, school runs, work and our 'usual' routines after the Christmas break.

Health
// Exercise. 2 runs, 1 spin workout and 2 yoga workouts. This seems like a lot but I have managed four consecutive days so I'm feeling pretty positive. (Truthfully, I wrote this post last night so I'm hoping I get my butt into gear and go for a run after work tomorrow...)
// Track my calories with Lifesum. I demolished the last of the Quality Street last night so I could start fresh today and they wouldn't be there, tempting me. I have a decent 'allowance' but I know I could eat better, healthier. Nearly every day since I started I've been over, particularly on fat but now Christmas is truly over I feel this is a clean slate.

Blogging
// Use my big camera twice. Shooting small with this one, as the light isn't brilliant. Feeling inspired by the 52 project though.
// Comment on at least 10 blogs. Sounds easy enough, I'm just a terrible comment-er!

Life
// Q&A a Day with Colin. I bought this for Christmas last year and we've only ever looked at it three times. Fail.
// Three activities with the boys. I'm thinking one craft, one role play and one sensory. To Pinterest!

Uni
// Read "The Star of Kazan" for English. Taking it easy here, as I have an assignment due soon, 3000 words, eek.

Wish me luck! <3 a="" href="http://thenectarcollective.com/2015/01/weekly-wishes-83-goal-setting-linkup/" linking="" up="" with="">The Nectar Collective

01/52.

A portrait and some quotes this week, these boys do know how to put a smile on my face. Interestingly, these photos aren't a true representation of my guys' usual personalities, Daniel is usually the quiet, focused one and Joshua is usually playing the fool, it's fun to see their quirks in pictures.

01
Joshua, concentrating on his colouring.
An iPhone picture, snapped at lunch.

Playing with the fish cleaner.
Me: "You shouldn't be playing with that, let go."
J: Look it's gone!
Me: Well who's fault is that?
J: Daddy.
Me: Daddy isn't even here!
J: Oh. Daniel.

Wanting Daddy to pull the trigger for his Buzz gun, which we usually only do once or twice before refusing again. "Pull dis, please... You da best... You da best Daddy in da whole werld!"

01
Daniel, playing the clown.
A little too grainy, but the weather wasn't bright enough today for a decent shot.

Being helpful and taking the plates out after dinner, Nanny says he could work in a restaurant. D replies "I can't do that, restaurants are too hot!"

"The goat ate Ryder's dog pod!" An interesting nickname for the Pup pad, watching Paw Patrol.

M: I'm going to bed too, I'm not feeling very well. Good night, I hope you have a good sleep.
D: I hope you have a really good sleep too, so you feel better in the morning ❤️

Life Lately.

I’ve done a little spring cleaning on this little piece of internet. A new picture to the right, some decluttering, and I am now SELF HOSTED. WOOHOO. I’m still working out a few nicks but it seems to be working okay! This seems like a super huge deal for me, especially after the overhaul last year and the attempt at a URL change that failed miserably, I now have a relevant URL! Eeek!

My
creation

A round-up of photos, the last of 2014. Pre, during and post the Christmas festivities, which we are every nearly recovered from. Starting with an amazing Pantomime, takeaway (it’s like the law not to cook on Christmas Eve, right?) and new pyjamas. We managed to fit in seeing all 28428 members of my family, open all 482991 presents and eat probably more than our own body weight in food. New Years Day we had a roast for lunch at my Uncles, and even without eating dinner I was over my calories for the day! I didn’t take many photos over Christmas because I was videoing instead, and now I seem to be out of the habit – I’ve hardly taken any the last few days! Though, tiding decluttering and organising don’t really make for brilliant photographs…

Center Parcs, Elveden Forest.

After Christmas  we spend a lovely couple of days at Center Parcs, Elveden Forest, which is a lovely place for a family break. We've been half a dozen times before, it's the sweetest little location, our lodge had a lake view and the animals were very friendly, coming up to the doors everyday to beg for food! The boys loved it. It's like a little village, deep in the forest with it's own swimming pool, supermarket, various shops and sports courts. The boys enjoyed playing at one of the many playgrounds, even though it was absolutely freezing, and rollerskating as part of the Roller-Tots class. Swimming was their favourite though, we squeezed in three trips in the two-night stay, and they are now both pretty confident in the water with arm-bands or little life-jackets on! Our stay was short and sweet, and we came back to all the post-Christmas madness which we are still sorting through! There's a little video at the end, three days packed into 8 minutes wasn't easy! :)
