Our Week & Weekly Wishes.

My creation
A whirlwind of a week, with not many pictures to show for it. I worked late two days, and had a funeral straight after work one day, so lots of chill out time happened. The weekend really brightened up, my mood and the weather, so hopefully it stays!

My weekly wishes, joining a whole bunch of inspirational and motivating ladies.

01. Drink four glasses of water a day.
I'm terrible at drinking, so I've decided to try and keep on top of it. I'm on four and a half today, and a hot chocolate, I hope I can keep it up.

02. Run 5k.
I've missed a few weekend runs now, when I go for longer runs, so I need to get back on that too.

03. Deep clean the whole house.
I've really let my housekeeping slip the last week, there are piles of washing everywhere, my sides are littered with rubbish and toys, real life yo. A proper spring clean is definitely in order, fingers crossed it's nice again this week so the boys can play in the garden and I can get stuff done.

04. Two date nights.
I'm feeling a real calling to reconnect with Colin a little more this week, so two nights, no phones, just us and a good film.

05. Comment on 20 blogs.
I'm so terrible at commenting on blogs, but I'm really going to make the effort this week. Promise.

Happy Mother's Day!

Wishing all the Mama's out there a very Happy Mother's Day! & thinking especially of those who can't be with theirs, sending lots of love your way. A giant Happy Birthday to my wonderful Mother too, I hope she had a wonderful day because she truly deserves it!

We've had a lovely day! Started with a lie-in and a cooked breakfast, courtesy of Colin! As, despite the time change, the boys were still up at 6:30, what a hero! We had a lovely walk to football, where the boys ran around and got medals for their hard work! My in-laws came to watch, and to the park too. My wonderful boys gave me some flowers yesterday and a voucher today for a facial and massage! So spoilt! After that we walked back to my Mama's for a delicious roast lunch and then an afternoon full of tea and cake. I am so full right now, amazing. It's so lovely to have all our family so close by, it makes these occasions even better! Now I'm snuggled up in bed before 9pm, getting an early night ready for a busy week!

Fashion Friday. Day to Night.

Fashion Friday. Day to Night.

I was designing this set based on the outfit I wore today - the trousers, shirt, jumper, boots and bag - when I saw those pointed flats and couldn't resist including them too! I've never been a fan of pointed shoes before, but I just love these! That lipstick looks just perfect too, such a lovely red. Back to today though. My shape doesn't suit collars and jumpers too well, I think it's my shoulders, so I tied my hair into a low side bun for a little more femininity. I went out on a limb a little with the brown boots but then realised my bag was the same colour so that made me happy - I do like to match!

Catch the Moment 365. Week Twelve.

077
077. Bar the early risings (which I'm almost convinced would be happening anyway) the boys sharing a room is going really well. I have even managed to tuck them in and walk straight out, and they have both been asleep in minutes. Since Joshua was born I have had to be there when he falls asleep, my baby's growing up and it's bittersweet.

078
078. A fast-forward to the future moment, my little hoodie playing games on his leappad. Those little toes though.

079
079. Pizza night for this messy face.

080
080. Sitting at the big table for his lunch, when he sees my camera he pulls this face. I die.

081
081. Train tracks in the sunlight. I love being a boymom, I'm getting pretty good at these tracks.

082
082. Roaring like lions, or dinosaurs? Joshua's face is so expressive, and it's so stinkin' cute!

083
083. Forever blowing bubbles.

I've been playing around with shutter speed a little today, though it's baffling me a little. The higher the number, the darker the picture?! I think I caught some really good faces this week, I would like to try some more faceless portraits, or some more shots not of the boys, to capture the little everyday things. Time is passing so fast, my babies are growing up and I want to remember every little thing.

Another Pinterest inspired craft. My boys loved the potato stamping we did the other week, and I was just dying to try this - it looked so pretty in the pictures! Ours didn't turn out quite so clear but they still had fun, my cousin Caitlin had a blast! I cut the fruits in half and put the coordinating colours of paint onto some paper plates, I really like the combination of colours actually! They needed a little help to stop the fruit sticking to the plate or paper, but my fantastic cousin helped them out. I posted a picture on IG while we did this and a few people commented that they wanted to try it out, so I thought I'd share here too. A multi sensory experience, some of my favourite smells!

Our Week.

My creation
Highlights this week. Typical British family eating ice lollies in the garden. A full potty sticker chart! St Patrick's Day rainbow fun. Colourful baths. A run, park trip and visit to Grandma's, resulting in my biggest baby falling asleep in my arms at dinner. Sweet brother moments. Meeting the adorable one-week-old Thomas, my ovaries are screaming. Odd socks in honour of the wonderful Matthew, for World Down Syndrome Day. Purple and green pancakes. Practising on the big boy bike, and mastering hills. A freezing cold football session (not pictured) where both my boys did amazingly and listened so well! Matching leather jackets. I am so blessed.

1.  What are the top 3 things you can’t go a day without doing?
Brushing my teeth, kissing my kiddos and checking my social media. I tried, I really did, but I just had to, at least once! I definitely did better this weekend than usual, and I'm trying to write up my 'notes' lists onto paper so I don't have that as an excuse to be picking up my phone.

2.  What are 3 things that scare you the most?
Losing someone I love, heights and moths. Ridiculous, I know. I blame my Mama.

3.  What are 3 places you want to see before you kick the bucket?
NYC, Egypt and Hawaii. They're my top three.

4.  What are 3 movies you’ll always love?
The Lion King, and Harry Potter. I know, that's cheating.

5.  What are your 3 favorite current songs?
I'm on a real country kick right now, so Dixiee Chicks - Goodbye Earl, Lady Antebellum - Need You Now and (not country, but OB-SESSED) Adelle - Someone Like You. I have a really broad taste in music, I don't think there's a single genre I don't like.

Linking up for the Sunday Social, just because it seems like fun!

"A portrait of my family, once a week, every week, in 2014."

Relaxing in the garden, enjoying the sun and pretending to be Robin Hood. My uncle gave the boys these bow and arrow sets, but they aren't exactly easy for them to use, there was a lot of frustration which I'm trying hard to help Daniel understand and deal with. I'm still winging my way through this parenting lark, never sure of the balance between ignoring their emotions or being over the top, because we all know children are little drama queens.

I failed a little this week, but I found this on my feed and feel it's pretty apt actually. An unplanned #nomakeupselfie for cancer research, I cannot believe how much money and awareness has been raised by this, truly amazing. An after-yoga selfie, I managed to get up nice and early twice this week and fit in 15 minutes before having to start the morning rush, with the boys joining in which is literally the most adorable thing.

Treasure hunt.

A really fun, simple activity for toddlers. We're all obsessed with pirates and treasure hunts round here, so this was a new take on that, stolen from Allie's Instagram. I thought Daniel would still be a bit young but he had a blast, though it was over Joshua's head a little he enjoyed chasing his brother around and helping to carry things. I tried to include all the senses (something smelly, something fluffy, etc), and some clear clues that Joshua could get (a pig, a dog etc). The boys played for about an hour, laughing and giggling together WITHOUT FIGHTING! I'm thinking of doing some more colour themed ones, as I'm trying to teach Joshua colours at the moment, and they loved them!!

Catch the Moment 365. Week Eleven.

071
071. Cheeky face brushing his teeth. Another everyday moment.

072
072. Counting to ten with Daddy!

073
073. Silly faces while we practice with the tripod. Sweeties.

074
074. Selfie. Fact, I have about 25 pairs of sunglasses.

075
075. Technology overload. iPhone plugged into the laptop uploading pictures, writing a blog post on my iPad and watching TV too. Ridiculous.

076
076. Daniel has been learning about space at school, so we made rockets!!

At the moment I'm really feeling like the days are long and the weeks are fast, is that even possible? I can't believe another week has passed, though days seem to be everlasting sometimes. I'm hoping to unplug a little over the weekend, from my phone and social media.  I will schedule a couple of blog posts but will be spending quality time with my wonderful family, it is so needed. I'm hoping it will push me to pick up my camera more too, rather than just my phone. I am loving seeing everyone's pictures and blog posts, I am the worlds worst commenter so I am so sorry if you don't realise, but I am checking out as many as I can!

The end of an era. Weaning.

I look down into your green eyes, mirrored to my own, and watch you blink slowly and heavily. Your hands reach up into my hair, twisting it round your fingers for comfort. You're curled up on my lap, just like you did as a newborn and I feel like those years have just flashed by. You're my baby again for those few moments, not the rambunctious toddler you were just a few seconds ago, jumping on the bed and wrestling with your brother. I listen to your breathing, stroke your cheek and take my own deep breath. All these feelings, all these emotions bubble up inside of me and tears start to well. Such a bittersweet moment, so beautiful.

Joshua is officially weaned from breastfeeding. I write this with quite a heavy heart, though I know it was the right time. It was one of the last 'babyish' things he does, and I'm being forced to acknowledge that he is now a full blown toddler. For a few months now he has only been feeding at night and early in the morning, and more recently we dropped the morning feed. When we moved him into Daniel's room and into a big boy bed, I wondered how that would work. Previously, we had put Daniel to bed and then nursed, but now we risked waking him when Joshua went to bed. The first night Daniel read books while he waited, and the second (maybe third) Joshua was so excited to go to bed he ran straight through without thinking, and I decided not to push it. At 20 months he's constantly on the move, fiercely independent and falling asleep by himself, so I wasn't exactly surprised. After that, I only fed him when he asked, which was only a couple of times. Sunday, he nursed for the last time, only for a few minutes. I soaked up every last second. Our journey hasn't always been easy, but it has been incredible, and I am so proud of us both. My body hasn't been my own for the last two and a half years, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

A simple craft to celebrate! I cut out squares from construction and tissue paper in the colours of the rainbow, and then used the coordinating colour crayons to draw a simple rainbow. I set the colours out in separate bowls, and glue, and explained to Daniel what to do. Joshua just covered the whole piece of paper in glue but Daniel did brilliantly! I can't wait to put it up on our art gallery wall, or even frame it! We played with rainbow rice and gold doubloons (& made a mega mess!) and had rainbow fruit salad too!
