I reorganised our craft cupboard & toy boxes, and moved some things into a box in Daniel's reach, to give him more independence over arty activities. He spotted the playdough & although this would normally have been something I would do with him while Joshua's asleep, I decided to give it a try. Daniel's not really a fan of manipulating playdough, he prefers me to do it and to use cutters himself, so I decided to try something new to encourage him to be more tactile. I grabbed some silicone cupcake cakes and some candles, popped Joshua in his highchair with a snack & let him at it. He did ask me to make it into balls, but he put them in the cases himself and added the candles, singing Happy Birthday the whole time. We spoke about birthdays, how old we were, and counted the 'cakes'. This kept him entertained for quite a while, longer than playdough normally does! This was Joshua's first experience with playdough, as you an tell by his face he wasn't too impressed - then he kept trying to eat it so I had to take it away. Luckily he was even more interested in the pot & lid!

  1. Play dough cakes are perfect. =) And you know, they both look so engaged with it. Good job keeping everyone happy ... even if some was consumed. =)
