393. Flashback Friday. Weaning.

With Joshua's 4 month birthday recently passing, I've had a few thoughts and comments about weaning him onto solids. We started Daniel at four months, so Colin thinks it's only fair that we give Joshua some too. I'm not so sure, for a few reasons. Every child is different, and just because it was right for one doesn't mean it's right for the other.

Daniel was a lot bigger than Joshua, from birth, and always seemed hungry - he'd often feed for over 30 minutes at a time - he just wasn't satisfied by my milk alone anymore. Daniel would also stare and strop whenever I was eating, anxious to try some himself. Joshua isn't showing any of these signs at all, and waiting for him to be ready is really important to me.

With Daniel, as he was my first baby, everything was so new and exciting and I was eager for the next steps. This time, as Joshua might be my last, I'm happy to keep him as my baby forever! I just don't want him to grow up too fast, but I don't want to hold him back either!

When did you wean your little ones?!

  1. I started both my boys on solids when they were around 6 months but I kept nursing them until about 8 or 9 months as well. I think you're right, you have to figure it out for each kid :) Mama knows best!

  3. Finn started at 6 months corrected and I went straight in to blw, he's never had a purée! As you say every child is different and the guidelines change so often I think you have to go with your own judgement! If you do go gun hoe blw, I admin a fab blw group on Facebook if you fancy joining!x

  4. Ahh cute pics :) guy was weaned at 4 months too but I will try and hold out longer with Rex I think...or certainly not set 4 months as the right time, I'll just wait til he's ready. For similar reasons too, I want him to be my baby forever as I don't think there will be a third x
